ALEC
International was founded by Dutchman Bart van Rijt in 2009. The setup
of his own trading business is not out of the blue as his parents had a
trading business in European charcuterie (e.g.
Belgian patés,
Spanish and
Italian dry-cured hams). The products were sold in The
Netherlands,
Belgium and the Caribbean. Already from his childhood years on he
visited business relations and trade fairs in entire
Europe.
His education at institute for the meat
industry (SVO) was a logical continuation.
After graduating, he studied
Spanish in Barcelona -Spain- and went on to
complete several
internships in the Spanish
charcuterie industry. Upon returning to The Netherlands, he started
working for the family business. With his Spanish language
skills,
product and culture knowledge he expanded the product portfolio to
include
Spanish ceramics and Mediterranean specialties (e.g.
olives, olive oil,
roasted bread, sauces and tapas).
Bart also began facilitating exports to Latin America which quickly
became his favorite holiday destination.
Three years
after external take-over of the family business he resigned and went on
a Sabbatical year in South America. After returning he worked one year
at a Dutch trading business of food
products (e.g. Chinese garlic,
frozen French fries and Dutch agro like onions, cabbage, carrots,
apples and pears). In 2009 the time was ripe to
found ALEC
International, a tribute to his passion for food, international
trade and Latin America.
